Literacy
DescriptionWe love singing "The Noun Song" to help us remember what a noun is as well as various examples.
Lots of sites to help us practice recognising and using parts of speech; nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.
Playing "Verbs in Space" helped us learn about verbs! We enjoyed taking turns to smash the correct terms!
This website has information, games and videos all about adverbs. We enjoyed playing "Pick It: Adverbs" in class
Punctuation Paint-ball is a fun way to check we know what punctuation is needed in given sentences. This site links to various KS1 Literacy games but Balloon Joining Words is good for practising using the most appropriate connectives in sentences. Teach Your Monster to Read is a free phonics and reading website. Once you sign up (which is a very quick, one-off exercise) the children can create a "player" and each time they log in, they progress from where they last left off. They can then successfully, over time practice their phonics and words, moving through the levels of difficulty. Lexia Core 5 is a free, personalised learning program which assists the pupils with their spelling and reading. Each member of the class has the teacher e-mail address needed for home set-up, as well as their own user name and password. We take turns using this in class, so they will be familiar with what to do. Bitsboard is a fantastic app that allows you to input words of your choice and then play a range of games to help you recognise them and eventually learn their spellings. The free version is one we use in class and it's more than sufficient! Pupils can input their spellings, topic words, High Frequency words etc. Super for revision too! Fry words presents sets of word lists in order of difficulty. When it opens, it will run in flash card mode, simply reading the words aloud for the children. When you are confident you know the words, you click on the settings wheel which allows you to change the "Play Mode" from "Learn" to "Game." You will then be tested on word recognition using the words from the chosen list. You can also increase the level of difficulty from choosing 1 out of 2, to 1 out of a possible 6. In Settings you can also change the font, size, colour, order etc. Pupils are required to listen to the phonic sounds to help them sound out individual letters and read CVC words. They then match these to the correct pictures. |
